*Hint: You can count the days on one hand.
I'm not so new anymore but back when I was new here's what happened: after three days of "teaching" my sixth grade son at home, I realized our relationship would never recover from an entire year of math worksheets, English lessons, and the feelings of frustration which marked the end of our, admittedly few, days. So this blog documents our first year of unschooling--the good, the bad, and the better--and then it just keeps on going...

A Good Laugh
I was cleaning out the piles and boxes and bags of papers in my office this morning and came across the weekly homeschooling schedule I had made back when we started homeschooling at the beginning of Jerry's 6th grade year. Wanna guess how long this plan lasted?*

Is It Just Me?
Lee and Low Books has a new site for homeschoolers, which is nice and all, but this excerpt from the press release really irked me:
Is that condescending or is it just me? Has the anger stage of my grief kicked in? Am I misdirecting that anger at poor 'ol Lee and Low when they were just trying to do something nice for homeschoolers? Be honest. I can take it.
"It is vital for children educated in homeschooling environments to be exposed to different cultures and to learn to accept people for who they are, despite cultural differences."Really? Just homeschooled children? 'Cause it seems to me that being exposed to different cultures and learning to accept people for who they are would be vital for all children. Oh, but I guess I'm forgetting that homeschooled children don't get exposed to other cultures because they never leave their homes.
Is that condescending or is it just me? Has the anger stage of my grief kicked in? Am I misdirecting that anger at poor 'ol Lee and Low when they were just trying to do something nice for homeschoolers? Be honest. I can take it.
