Freaking Out - Again

I'm having an unschooling freak out. It happens every now and then. I may have to put in a phone call to one of the more experienced unschoolers in my phone book. Just thought you should know.

Also, after being a total spaz about getting A's in my classes, just days before the midterm exams I suddenly feel annoyed at having to study. Argh! That's not good.

And...now that Warren is working again (and working with a vengeance every single day of the week until past midnight) I'm stuck washing the stupid, endless piles of dirty dishes in my kitchen. I hate washing dishes! Could someone please just give me a pill that would satisfy my family's nutritional requirements so I don't have to cook? I mean, really, shouldn't we have invented something like that by now?

Plus, just in case you were wondering what happens when your cat expels a hair ball after eating an entire bird, I can tell you--there are lots of feathers involved and it's not pretty.

I think I'm done now. I'm off to study for my stupid midterms. Then I'm going to wash the stupid dishes (even though I just washed some last night!).

Sheesh.

Hi Colleen,

Oh, I hate to say this because it will sound completely selfish and self centered but here goes . . . I'm glad you have those unschooling freak outs, too. Thought I was the only one. Here I sit while my son plays video games and my daughter has her nose buried deep in her computer. My husband will come home and ask "What have the kids done today that is QUANTIFIABLE, dear?" and I'll have to answer him in terms that will not cause an argument.

Such is life. However, my unschooling kids are responsible for doing the dishes, at least after dinner. So while I try and keep things under control during the day, they clean up after dinner. Not always a pretty sight, but hey, they live here too and I refuse to play the maid! Just sayin'.

Hugs to you,
Susan

I know what you mean, Sue! But I just went to one of Sandra Dodd's online chats and I'm all better now. But the dishes are still dirty. And I was on the chat instead of studying for my midterms. Ugh.

Deep breaths girl! Lots of slow deep breaths. ;)

Studying IS annoying when you HAVE to do it. Just don't knock yourself out worrying about it.

If you've maintained a solid A throughout the course then you already know your stuff...just look at is as reviewing.

As for the dishes, I can't help you there. I hate them too and find myself grumbling over the kitchen sink "What, no one else in this house knows how to scrub a pot?" at least 3 times a week.

I don't have to wonder about the cat and regurgitated bird scenario. We were, up until recently, a 4 cat household and I've seen that play out many times. Not pretty is a huge understatement.

(((HUGS)))

Good luck with the studying - I feel you there. I am just a quiz and two papers away from finishing my two classes, and I have this whole "I HAVE TO GET AN A" mentality. But boy oh boy to I procrastinate, stress myself out, and dread doing the studying and assignments sometimes. I love being back in school, but it's a lot of work! And the dishes. The evil, never ending dishes. Ugh.

The unschooling freak-outs, do they come at the same time of year each year? We are just in our second year and I know I cycled through the fear at least once. And could you share how the "chat" helped you? I signed on to a chat once and quickly felt I didn't really belong there!

Well, Andrea, it helped that I could have said all the things they told me to myself. I just needed to hear them from someone else. It was my first chat experience and I can see how a person could feel they didn't belong. But maybe by logging on and just "listening" for a while you'd start to feel more secure about being there. I think I'll probably do that next time. I felt kind of bad that I was troubling everyone with such stupid questions/fears, but what are you gonna do? Sometimes they just pop up and you need for someone to set you straight!

You only do the dishes once a day? Lucky.

I'm with Sara. Once a day? Nice.

But I do understand. This too shall pass. :-D

Sorry for the freak out. They suck, don't they? I'd tell you to relax about the mid-terms, but if you're anything like me (and with the A statement I think you are) you'll ignore me anyway. And I hear you on the absent husband. I get to see mine in 10 weeks, 5 days...but who's counting. I wouldn't mind doing dishes so much if there was a way to do it without water. I have water issues. So glad I don't have a cat. Ewwww!!!

I know it's not great for the environment, but how about using paper plates sometimes...? Just to reduce the washing load, even a little...

{{hugs}}} Hang in there girl. I'm going cross eyed trying to work my way through this photography course, so you have my full sympathies in regards to your study.

And as for the homeschooling - I'm in my 6th year of it, and still get the willies at times! Breathe......
